It is not required for medicine pricing to be absurdly high to foster drug innovation. Peter Hotez and his Texas team show it. A tiny group of Texas researchers has been praised for inventing an unpatented Covid-19 vaccination that will be freely distributed worldwide. Corbervax, formally known as the World's Covid vaccine is an open-source alternative to Big Pharma's patent-protected vaccinations. Cobervax was developed in collaboration with Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and Biological E. Limited, an Indian pharmaceutical company. It has been approved for emergency use in India due to an outbreak of infections caused by the highly contagious Omicron variant. According to Texas Children's Hospital, the novel vaccination is at least 90% effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and at least 80% effective against its Delta form. The Texas Children's Hospital team was directed by Peter Hotez, who told The Washington Post, "We're not trying to generate money." "All we want is for people to be vaccinated”.
