New Zealand will be the world's first country to ban smoking. Tobacco will never be sold to anybody under the age of fourteen. According to the new law, the legal smoking age will rise each year, resulting in a smoke-free generation in New Zealand. The government announced the increase in the smoking age along with other measures aimed at making smoking price and inaccessible in order to meet its goal of having the country smoke-free by 2025. Some parties have criticized the initiative, claiming that lowering nicotine levels in products will disproportionately affect low-income individuals.

“As a doctor, I believe this is a watershed moment in cancer and smoking-related illness prevention. More nations should follow this initiative. Warning and tariffs are not sufficient to prohibit such addictive items." said Dr. Sumer Sethi.
