The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a circular regarding the introduction of a new competency-based medical education programme for undergraduate medical students. The National Medical Council (NMC) has released a circular regarding the implementation of a new competency-based medical education curriculum in the undergraduate programme. MBBS students in the UG CGME 2021-2022 batch will be subject to the new set of rules (admitted in 2022). The new course has been mandated for all medical colleges in states and UTs. The circular outlines how to manage the new timetable as well as other measures that will help to promote competency-based medical education.

The other changes include:  

• Early clinical exposure and integration  

• Self-Directed Learning (SDL)  

• Introduction of electives  

• Family adoption programme  

• Recommendation of modified 'Maharishi Charak Shapath'  

• Yoga training in foundation course  

• Continuous formative and internal assessment  

• Supplementary exams  

• No supplementary or repeater batch
