After more than three decades, Israel is seeing a polio epidemic. According to the Jerusalem Post, traces of the virus have been discovered in three additional Israeli cities, and two youngsters have already tested positive for polio. In sewage samples from Beit Shemesh, Modi'in Illit, and Tiberias, the traces were discovered. Two children in Jerusalem tested positive for polio last week, and another five children are suspected of contracting the disease in the capital. The cases are Israel's first since 1989. If they haven't already, Israeli parents should vaccinate their children against polio, according to the Ministry of Health. Polio is a highly contagious illness that attacks the nerve system and can cause complete paralysis in as little as 24 hours. While there is no treatment, a vaccination can help to avoid it. In several places, including Africa and Eastern Europe, the polio virus is making a comeback.
