An official notice from the National Medical Commission (NMC) warned Indian students against pursuing medical study in China amid travel restrictions and the suspension of Chinese visas since November 2020 owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. The commission took notice of China issuing statements for admission to MBBS programs for the current and upcoming academic years.

Students should be advised that, as a result of COVID-19, China has placed harsh travel restrictions and has suspended all visas until November 2020. Many international students, including Indian students, have not returned to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions. The Chinese government has previously stated that courses would be conducted online, according to the letter. NMC also reiterated that the commission does not recognize or approve medical procedures done only by online mode as per the extant rules. Before applying to or preparing to seek admission to any Chinese/foreign universities, students are urged to review the FMGE Regulations. The FMGE Regulations determine Indian Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs).
